Octagon pop- out card

 Octagon Pop Out Card

Cut card base 8 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches  Score at 2 1/8 inches from either end.

Mark 1 inch on either side of the score line and 1 inch along the score line.   Score between the marks.

I have found that using a ruler and the bone folder is a simple way to make the diagonal score lines.

Fold along the score lines to make a little insert piece.
Set aside while you prepare the other pieces.

Cut coordinating card stock to create mats.   One piece 3 3/4 inch square,
4 pieces 3 3/4 x 1 7/8 inch, and

4 pieces 1 3/8 inch x  1 3/8 inch

Make marks 1 inch from each corner (8 marks)
Cut from mark to mark, making a diagonal cut which removes the corner.

Make marks at 1 inch on 2 of the corners of the rectangle and trim.

Cut DSP - can be all the same DSP design or 3 different designs.  Non-directional designs work best but if using a directional design just be sure to align correctly in the steps to trim the corners.
Cut 4 rectangles 1 7/8 x 3 1/2.

                                                      Cut 4 squares 1 1/8 x 1 1/8 inch.
Trim the corners of the DSP in the same way you did the card stock mats, marking 1 inch from the corner and trimming off the corner.

You should have pieces like this.

Adhere the DSP and neutral card stock to the corresponding mat pieces ( for the octagon center since the sides are not all equal you may need to play with it to get the pieces to match up best)
I also cut a neutral card stock square 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 and trimmed the corners by making the 1 inch marks.  This is used for the center piece.

Glue the squares to the triangles that are not in the center section (see Xs in the photo).

Place adhesive only on the triangle section away from the center.

Place the square along the score lines.

                                                         Repeat with other square pieces.

Fold in the sides to be sure the pieces are correctly placed.

Place the center octagon and side half octagons as desired.  Again the center pieces is not a perfect octagon so you may need to play with it a little to be sure you have it placed correctly.   The border around the pieces may not be exact as a very tiny discrepancy when making the 1 inch marks or cutting the diagonals can make a big difference.  Most recipients will nto notice that - so don't fret over it.

Add the other half octagon pieces to the card front.

Fold up the card to make sure everything works together.

To make the belly band, cut a 1 inch x 11 inch strip of card stock.

Placed the closed octagon card near the center.

Loosely wrap the strip around the closed octagon - it should fit but not be so snug you                                                                                   can't slide it off.

                                                                        Decorate as desired.

I have made this without attaching the 4 squares and it is also an impressive card.

This card does not have the squares and I placed an image in the center,

so I cut a neutral octagon to place on the back for writing a greeting and signing the card.
